52. The Universal Law of Attraction 101

Imagine yourself as a magnet. What you want and what you don’t want will find you and stick to you. These “What you wants” and “What you don’t wants” are both Seen and Unseen. Seeking personal growth and awareness, either aloud or quietly to yourself? The Cosmic Playbook shows up. Avoiding an acquaintance? You bump into each other. Ask yourself a random question? Hear the answer at the next lunch table, in the elevator, and again on TV. The Law of Attraction doesn’t care if it’s wanted or unwanted. It only brings you that which you focus on.

(The Law of Attraction is a two-way street. You don’t just wish it and it arrives out of thin air; As you formulate what you want, you remove the static surrounding it. What if: What you want is just right there, waiting for you to see it?)

Protect your Magnetic Field from what you don’t want. Get CLEAR and SUCCINCT about what you want, DECLARE what you want, and you will ATTRACT what you want.

If you’re having difficulty identifying what you want, you may first need to identify what you don’t want. Remember: what you put your attention on grows and what you take your attention from diminishes. Therefore, do what that song says and accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative.

Get clear:

Consider the exact opposite.

Consider what remains after you’ve removed what you don’t want.

Consider long-term results (and trust the process in the short term).

Consider short-term results (and trust the process in the long term).

Consider foundational structures that will support future wants.

Consider wild ideas, new paradigms, and surprising desires.

Get succinct:

It’s a simple, straightforward sentence.

Declare:

Our declarations ignite the Unseen, and Help is waiting for their directive (and gratitude). Write it down. Say it aloud. Feel it in your WHOLE body—Inner and Outer Senses, too. Say an internal Thank You. Take a deep breath.

Attract:

The last and most important dynamic of this Universal Law of Attraction is that you will need to either: make an effort OR choose inaction.

How to make an effort: Aggressively waiting for that magical red bike to show up on your doorstep is inappropriate. Search for a fixer-upper at a thrift shop. Trade work for credit at a bike store. Sell your old bike and other cast-offs online. The path to your new bike may twist and turn. Enjoy the journey. You may end up with a different, better one that you couldn’t even have imagined.

How to choose inaction: We’d all like to win the lottery, but our little, tiny Inner Critic voice says, “You Can’t Win.” “You Don’t Deserve That Much Money.” “The Odds Are Too High For You.” “You’ll Never Win.” And then we’ve attracted exactly what we’ve been thinking about. Instead, as Queen Elsa says, Let It Go. Yes, that bike can indeed magically appear, and I’ll be the first to offer a hearty congratulations! Effortless attraction does indeed happen—it’s happened to me numerous times—and the hardest part is not the knowing or the asking, it’s the getting out of the way.

If you know what you want, write them now. In fact, write 101 Wants in your journal. Your list will look like this, three to four pages long:

  1. I want…
  2. I want to…
  3. I want…

  1. I want…

I like to list a new 101 Wants every few years. Inevitably, somewhere in my 70s is “I want to finish this list!” Although it may take a few days or weeks, give yourself that gift of time. When you start feeling stuck or uninspired, proceed to The Universal Law of Attraction 2.0.
